These old doors are covered in the signatures of Rehoboth Beach artists dating back to the 1930s.
Every community should have a space that lives and breathes art and culture, one where artists can collectively group up to teach classes and proudly display their works. For Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, that place is the Rehoboth Art League.
One of the main attractions of the Art League—other than the constantly rotating exhibitions, the 900-piece permanent collection, and many enriching art courses—are the “Doors of Fame” found at the center. Inscribed on these doors are many signatures of notable artists dating back to the 1930s when the Art League’s front doors first opened.
Look closely and you’ll find names plotting out a history of the Rehoboth Beach art scene, ranging from those who first entered the space to local legends like the late Jack Lewis. These signatures are a “who’s who” of local artistic influence—and a lasting sign of respect.
Know Before You Go
The Rehoboth Art League campus, located just steps from the beach, consists of five buildings housing galleries, classrooms, and studios, as well as the historic 18th-century Peter Marsh Homestead. The Doors of Fame are part of the league’s permanent collection. The campus is open year-round, with varying hours.
