    New York

After arriving at the Brewster Inn in Cazenovia late in the evening, I was unsure as to what I would see from my bedroom window when I awoke.

Drawing back the curtains the next morning, I was greeted with a marvelous view of Cazenovia Lake, made complete by the rolling colorful hillside in the distance. It was autumn in Central New York, and the fall foliage was in full force. Nestled in the heart of the state, Central New York is a great holiday destination, offering an abundance of activities, fun and food. Irresistible and charming towns dot the hills and are surrounded by must-see attractions, working farms and breweries, as well as wonderful scenery.

Brew Central and Babe Ruth

Although known as the USA’s Craft Brew Destination and Brew Central, this region will please just about anyone. Children can pick the perfect pumpkin while grown-ups try a tasting or two. My first stop was Harvest Moon Cidery in Cazenovia. Perhaps a little early in the day to be knocking back a pint, I opted for a tour of the working farm before taking a sip. I worked my way through a corn maze shaped like a cat and saw the 120-year-old four-screw cider press that’s used to make 75 gallons of apple cider each day.

Feeling it was necessary to take a break from imbibing, I headed to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown to learn a thing or two about the USA’s favorite pastime. For example, George Herman "Babe" Ruth garnished 714 home runs in his career, and Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball and the first to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

My next stop was for lunch at Brewery Ommegang, home of the official “Game of Thrones” beers as well as other Belgian-style ales. After taking a tour of the facilities, I had lunch in the café and washed down delicious, mouth-watering beer-steamed mussels and a Croque Madame with Hennepin Belgian-style Saison ale.

My last stop at the end of the day was FX Matt Brewery to take a tour of the facilities and taste the Saranac beers.

Activities for Everyone

There are plenty of other must-do experiences in the Central New York region. Try a game of golf at one of the stellar golf courses designed by well-known architects such as Robert Trent Jones. See why Golf Digest, Golfweek and Golf Magazine consider the Central New York links to be some of the best in the country, favored by the likes of PGA legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

Take a scenic boat ride in the beautiful Mohawk Valley with Erie Canal Cruises, or go prospecting at Herkimer Diamond Mines, where you’ll see exceptional, diamond-like gemstones nearly 500 million years old.

Whatever you’re seeking in your next getaway, you might just find it here. Explore further than the Big Apple and see what adventures you can experience in Central New York.
