Fort Worth, Texas: Art, Culture and Western History

By Wuzhi Lu

I put my boots on and head to the City of Cowboys and Culture – Fort Worth, Texas! Based on my research, there are three main entertainment districts in Fort Worth I would like to explore: Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Cultural District and the Stockyards National Historic District. My tour starts at the best place to get to know the city, right in the heart of downtown, before I check out Fort Worth’s incredible museum district and uncover its iconic Western culture.

Enjoying the Urban Vibe in Downtown Fort Worth

Sundance Square, located in the heart of Fort Worth, is filled with shops, restaurants and entertainment options. The district is a wonderful place to experience Fort Worth like the locals and have fun in between cultural attractions. I loved browsing the unique shops and also picked up some souvenirs for my friends and family. Or, you can just grab a cup of coffee to enjoy while sitting outside and people watching. It was such a warm and pleasant feeling to relax under the Texas sun.

Downtown Fort Worth is full of exciting things to do and see, from restaurants, theatres and museums to friendly pubs and trendy bars. It is also known as one of the cleanest, safest and most walkable urban areas in the U.S. I’m looking forward to exploring it more on my next visit.

Cultural District – Home to Amazing Museums

A few miles west of downtown Fort Worth, you can discover one of the largest arts districts in the U.S. The Fort Worth Cultural District is the home to five museums: the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.

The internationally recognized museums are located in a beautiful, park-like setting, all in walking distance of one another. This remarkable collection of museums in a single location has made Fort Worth a bucket list destination for lovers of art and architecture.

Exploring Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District

See the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. Sip a cold brew and hear live country stars at Billy Bob's Texas, the world's largest honky-tonk. And, don’t miss the exciting Stockyards Championship Rodeo. At Stockyards National Historic District, I am inspired to truly discover my inner cowboy. From cowboy hats to candy stores, this district has the best western gifts and souvenirs for your family and friends. There are also endless local bars and dining options with cuisine as flavourful as the city's rich Western appeal.

Fort Worth is truly fascinating. In only a few days, I have seen priceless masterpieces in the world-renowned Cultural District, explored the true American West in the Stockyards National Historic District, and experienced shopping and fine dining in Sundance Square.

Plan your trip today visit one of the top cities in the U.S.! I know I will come back to Fort Worth, Texas soon.
