Bradenton’s Family-friendly Fun

By Renan Leahy

The west coast of Florida has many wonderful secrets. One of the best of these lesser-known treasures is Bradenton. Bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and located between Tampa to the north and Sarasota to the south, the city is home to fantastic beaches, excellent shopping opportunities and a wide variety of fun leisure activities for the entire family.

Sports Mecca

If you’re looking for sports and action, Bradenton is the ideal location. The region is home to the IMG Academy, one of the best-known and most-respected sports centers in the world. Athletes of all ages come from around the globe to improve their techniques in sports such as golf, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, lacrosse and track & field. Tourists and families can also take advantage of the modern, state-of-the-art facilities at IMG Academy. It doesn’t matter how long your vacation is – you can plan sessions for a day, a weekend, a week or several weeks with instruction from world-class coaches.

Nearby in residential Lakewood Ranch, is the Premier Sports Campus, which attracts both athletes and sports fans. With its 22 grass fields scattered over 4 square kilometers, the facility offers opportunities to attend or participate in regional and national tournaments for soccer, lacrosse, polo, rugby, archery, football and various other sports, as well as the capacity to accommodate and train disabled athletes.

Activities that Pack an Adrenaline Rush

When you get to Bradenton, be ready for excitement at full speed! Find high-speed thrills on the racetrack at Andersen RacePark, which offers go-karting for adults and children as young as 5 years old and guarantees fun for all ages. And you can race without fear, because the track provides all of the safety equipment you need to race. I just hope you have better luck than me – I lost my race in the last lap – and honor the long Brazilian tradition in motorsport.

For those who like action surrounded by nature, head to TreeUmph!, a big, beautiful park with canopy trails, zip lining, suspension bridges and many other challenges that will make you feel like Tarzan. Here, too, the focus is on the whole family – the kids will love the high-flying adventures. Not a fan of heights? No problem. TreeUmph! has a course for everybody.

History, Shopping and Beaches

When you’re ready to get back down to ground level, pay a visit to the South Florida Museum, where you’ll find a large number of historical and natural exhibits and one of the largest planetariums in the United States. This is also home to Snooty™, the world’s oldest-living manatee in captivity.

If you’re looking for shopping opportunities, be sure to visit the Ellenton Premium Outlets, home to more than 130 shops with famous brand names at bargain prices no one can resist. What makes it great for the family? There’s a playground to let off some energy as well as a chocolate shop and ice cream parlor.

In addition to all that, Bradenton’s beautiful beaches, with pleasant temperatures all year ‘round, will delight you and your family. Book your visit to the Bradenton Area for an unforgettable vacation. You’ll enjoy every minute of it!
