Ask Chef Marc Murphy where he grew up, and he’ll fire off a list of cosmopolitan destinations – Milan, Paris, Villefranche, Rome, Genoa – and that’s all before he turned 12. This dizzying list of hometowns served as an excellent education in French and Italian cuisine. After graduating from the Institute of Culinary Education, he apprenticed at restaurants in France and Italy before returning to New York City. In 2004, Murphy opened his first of several restaurants, Landmarc. In 2012, he joined the US Department of State’s Diplomatic Culinary Partnership, where he participates in public diplomacy programs that engage audiences abroad as well as those visiting the United States.
